The prices above are intentionally broad. This was done to reflect a wide range of product origins, type, quality and sizes from all over the world. The lower end of the range is typically for smaller sizes, higher volume, product origin and possible lower quality. The higher end of the range would be for larger sizes, niche markets, low volume and established brand-names. In addition, the categories also cover a wide range of value-added processing. For example, the frozen whole categories cover all freezing methods while the frozen whole (gutted) category also covers further processing such as gilled and scaled. Similarly, the fillets categories cover a broad range a value-added processing such as pin bones in or pin bones out, flap on or flap off and skin on, skin off or deep skinned. Varying degrees of packaging quality are also reflected in the range of prices for value-added products. Prices generally reflect market conditions in the United States and may not be applicable to other countries. To convert to the price in kilograms, multiply by 2.2 for a general approximation.
